The record supports the trial court’s finding that Chad Swan is in a persistent vegetative state. Likewise, there is support in the record for the Superior Court’s finding that Swan made several statements concerning refusal of treatment. Because the statements are similar to those held to be sufficient to require withdrawal of nutrition and hydration in In re Gardner, 534 A.2d 947 (Me.1987), the result here is compelled by Gardner.
